Shapes:

  • Tablet form: This is the most common form. Coconut shell charcoal is ground into powder, then mixed with a natural binder (such as tapioca starch) and compressed into cylindrical, square, or pillow-shaped tablets.
  • Bar form: Charcoal is compressed into long bars, which may be hollow in the middle to make it easier to burn.
  • Granular (actived charcoal ): Charcoal is crushed into particles of irregular size, often used for water treatment or air filtration.
  • Raw form: Charcoal retains the shape of a coconut shell after heating, often less popular because it is not as convenient as compressed forms.

Coconut shell charcoal briquettes is produced by carbonizing the hard inner shell — the endocarp — of mature coconuts at high temperatures (500–700°C) in oxygen-limited kilns or retort systems. The hard coconut shell is botanically one of the densest natural biomass materials, with a lignin-cellulose structure that, upon carbonization, creates an exceptionally fine, uniform microporous carbon matrix with a BET surface area reaching 200–400 m²/g before activation.
