Brown Coconut Cake — also known as Brown Copra Cake, Brown Copra Meal, or Coconut Expeller Cake (with testa) — is the solid byproduct remaining after extracting oil from copra (dried coconut meat) using mechanical expeller pressing or solvent extraction. Unlike White Copra Cake (which uses peeled copra with the brown skin removed), Brown Copra Cake is produced from whole copra where the testa (the thin brown inner skin adhering to the coconut meat) is retained throughout processing.
The testa's presence contributes a darker brown colour to the meal, a slightly higher crude fiber content (12–18% vs 10–14% for white), and a modest reduction in crude protein compared to white copra cake. These characteristics make Brown Copra Cake particularly well-suited as a bulk energy-protein supplement in ruminant diets (cattle, buffalo, goat, sheep) and as a fiber-enriching component in swine and aquaculture feeds.
